DGT and Shell India Launch Skills Training in area of green skills and electric vehicle (EV) technologies to Power India’s Future Workforce

⚡ In a strategic move to equip India’s youth with skills for the evolving energy landscape, the Directorate General of Training (DGT) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has partnered with Shell India to launch an innovative Green Skills and Electric Vehicles (EV) Training Program.

🚀 Program Highlights

  • EV Skill Labs: Specialized labs will be set up in selected Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs).
  • Practical Training: Focus on hands-on learning through simulators, diagnostics, and safety protocols.
  • Certifications: Joint certification by Shell and DGT.
  • Placement Support: Structured support to boost employability in the EV and green energy sectors.

This initiative will be implemented by Edunet Foundation, Shell’s implementation partner, across Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, training thousands of students.

📘 Multi-Tier Curriculum Structure

The training model includes:

  1. 240-hour advanced EV Technician course at 4 NSTIs
  2. 90-hour job-oriented course at 12 ITIs with Shell-supported labs
  3. 50-hour foundational green skills module at additional ITIs without labs

The curriculum, co-developed by Shell, Edunet Foundation, and DGT, covers:

  • EV systems & diagnostics
  • Battery technology
  • Digital tools
  • Safety protocols
  • Industry-relevant practices

👨‍🏫 Training the Trainers

Over 250 instructors will undergo a Training of Trainers (ToT) module to ensure quality delivery and widespread implementation. Certification and practical exposure will empower trainers to keep pace with industry trends.

🧭 Driving India’s Net-Zero Ambition

The launch aligns with India’s national vision of a net-zero carbon economy. This initiative complements the FAME Scheme (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles), as well as state-led EV policies in Delhi, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu.

These efforts highlight a surging demand for industry-ready talent in the green energy and mobility sectors.
